Running single track trails with breathtaking surrounds, biking on a foggy morning hearing the wind rustling through the trees, hiking on a sunny day along a trickling stream! This type of physical activity done in nature improves not only our physical health but also our mental health and overall sense of well-being. Walking, hiking, biking, kayaking, running and gardening are perfect examples.

A recent study showed that even five minutes of exercise outdoors can improve self-esteem and mood and decrease anxiety. Make sure to listen to the birds chirping, feel the warmth of the sun on your body, and smell the fresh blossoms.

To make your experience even better: why not take your four-legged friend with? We can learn so much from them: they are always excited to go, they spontaneously choose the desired path, they stop and smell the flowers when the urge strikes, they happily greet those they encounter and they look forward to the next outing. Doing exercise outside is an activity that nourishes the mind and body and it connects us to others and the environment.

Isn’t there beauty in the simplicity of nature as a source of health?
