The secret to successful weight loss isn’t limiting your food choices, starving yourself or following a rigid pattern of eating. It is simply keeping your food choices healthy and keeping your blood sugar balanced. This will not only help you to lose weight but will also give you improved digestion, more energy, better skin and enhanced mood. One of the best ways to achieve stable blood sugar is by eating a low glycemic load (GL) diet. Blood sugar levels are linked to hunger – when you haven’t eaten for a while, your blood sugar level will dip and you will become hungry. When you eat a food containing carbohydrates, glucose is released into your bloodstream and your blood sugar level will rise again. The key to achieving your perfect weight is to keep your blood sugar levels stable.

Low GL foods release their glucose slowly so you maintain stable energy levels for longer. This means that you won’t suffer from food cravings, your body will be reprogrammed to burn fat rapidly, you will stop producing more glucose than you can use, so you won’t gain weight and you will be able to lose weight and sustain your weight loss permanently.

A low GL diet is real easy to follow:

  • Always eat a combination of both high-quality protein and complex carbohydrates at every meal (see our online store for great examples of these). Protein foods have virtually no effect on blood sugar level. Even though the GL value of a starchy food might be high, combining it with a good source of protein or an essential fat, the GL value will be lowered.
  • Even though protein eaten on its own and in large quantities can be bad news for our health, eating them with low GL starchy carbs and non-starchy vegetables results in low blood sugar, high energy and optimum health, so you will lose more weight permanently and feel less hungry for longer and supply your body with what it needs for good health.
